WATERBURY—The Waterbury Regional Chamber, in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, will host a first-of-its kind, county-wide civics bee competition on Thursday, May 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Waterbury City Hall. Connecticut has been chosen as one of several states across the country to participate in this national competition. Earlier this year, students in grades six through eight from across New Haven County submitted essays sharing ideas for improving their communities and showing their enthusiasm for civic duty. The finalists have been chosen to compete at the county level and the winner will go on to compete at the state competition—slated for June in Washington, D.C. A variety of civic and business leaders from across the region helped to judge the essays. Individuals are invited to attend the free event at Waterbury City Hall’s Veterans’ Hall, 235 Grand St., and encourage each student as they compete to earn recognition and cash prizes. ###
