In the summer of 1978, Denis Lucarelli took a leap of faith in leaving his family owned business, Roseland Apizza of Derby Connecticut, to follow his own dreams of opening a hotdog stand in Southbury Connecticut. On July 1 1978, those dreams became a reality and Dennis opened the then-named Cedar Hollow Shack & Dairy. In the 1980's, Denis changed the name to "Denmo's Famous Snack & Dairy". This was a proud nickname his italian speaking grandparents and parents gave him. Denmo married Marilyn (Culmo) in September of 1981 and had a baby girl, Chloe, in 1990.In the beginning, Cedar Hollow was known solely for their split and charred famous hummels hot dogs, a local favorite made in nearby New Haven, CT, but as time went on, Denmo and Mariyln created a homemade chili recipe and expanded their menu. As the business grew year after year, Denmo added freshly breaded seafood, seasonal homemade soups, sandwiches, top quality never frozen burgers, and an array of delicious local ice cream treats. Today, The Lucarelli Family work together to keep the restaurant a favorite and a desired destination for locals and out of towners alike. You can find Chloe, along with her wife Nicky, who married in October of 2020, at Denmo's keeping this Gem the nostalgic spot you have all come to love! It has been an honor to serve Southbury and its community for over 40 years and are looking forward to 40 more!
